Going green is easy. Yes, it takes a little extra effort, but it doesn't necessarily mean overhauling your lifestyle in order to have a sizeable positive impact.
Whether in the workplace or at home, there are many things we can all do to ensure we are protecting the environment.
Here are five of the easiest ways in which you can do your bit and make a difference.
1. Choose tap water over bottled products
Yes, it really is that simple. The bottled water industry is responsible for nearly three million tonnes of plastic for its packaging. By changing your water preferences to the tap, you can help reduce the need for this amount of plastic and save the planet. What's more, you'll also save a lot of money over the course of the year.
2. Using mugs and glasses in the workplace
If you are an employer or in charge of office management, then you have a decision to make. Do you use polystyrene and plastic cups or do you use crockery mugs and glasses? By using the latter, you can reduce the need for more plastic. Plus, if you do all the washing up at the same time, and only use the water and washing up liquid you need, you can make even more of a positive impact.
3. Close the fridge door whenever you don't need it open.
When a fridge door is open, the light comes on and the cool air escapes. This means the fridge will then have to work harder to re-cool itself once the door is eventually shut. By closing it more often, you can reduce the energy that is used in the re-cooling process. See, told you the small things make the difference!
4. Use energy saving light bulbs
It is now common for households to use energy saving light bulbs, so there's really no excuse for lagging behind. Likewise, if you have one or two rooms that still have regular bulbs, it is time to change those too. Energy saving light bulbs use just 20% of the energy used by regular ones and last a lot longer... there's really no reason not to.
5. Use recycling bags
Whether you have paper, plastic bottles, glass, garden waste or batteries, by disposing of them in recycling bags you can make a massive difference to the world. If your government provided bins and bags don't work for you or you need extra ways of disposing of waste properly, then why not buy some kerbside recycling bags today and do your bit?
So if you want to boost your green credentials, perhaps it is time to invest in some recycling bags or garden waste bags
